Lady Eagles fall in PIAA quarterfinals

SLATINGTON – Mountain View had trouble finding its rhythm Saturday.

That gave Christopher Dock just enough time to capitalize.

Bailey Kratz scored in the 51st minute off an assist from Raychel Bair to defeat Mountain View, 1-0, in a PIAA Class A girls soccer quarterfinal match at Northern Lehigh High School’s Bulldog Stadium.

Christopher Dock (10-2-1), the District 1 champion, advances to face District 12 champion Conwell Egan in the semifinals Tuesday. Conwell Egan defeated Tulpehocken, 2-1, in another quarterfinal match.

“In the first half we played to not lose,” Mountain View coach Errol Mannick said. “Maybe we were a little bit ahead of ourselves and we weren’t quite ready for it. But other than that I’m not disappointed in anything.

“Our hustle was fantastic. We started this year as a team. We’ve come so far and we finished as a team.”

For much of the first half, the Lady Eagles (14-1-1) played a defensive game, allowing Christopher Dock to maintain possession and win balls in the air.

Pioneers players found openings and used their speed to keep the pressure on the Lady Eagles.

Meanwhile, Mountain View struggled to cross passes to the sidelines and drive the offense. Christopher Dock had junior captain Jenny Molenko marked and the Lady Eagles could not create plays with their top scorer.

“I addressed three or four issues that we played not how we normally would because of the pressure and because of the circumstance,” Mannick said. “If they can change that for next time, if we get the chance to come here, then they’ll be better for it.

“That’s part of getting better as a team.”
