Burglary charges held for trial

Burglary and theft charges lodged against a Montrose-area man were bound over for trial Monday after a preliminary hearing held in front of District Judge Jeffrey Hollister.

Joshua Baker, 26, is accused of stealing a flat-screen television, a game system and accessories and 40-50 movies March 17 from the Olshan residence in Auburn Twp.

Homeowner Gina Olshan testified that she had returned home after3 p.m.on March 17 and discovered the items had been taken.

She said she immediately suspected Baker’s involvement in the incident and told the court that before the incident he had been to her home on many occasions. She also said Baker was one of the only non-family members who knew the way to unlatch her door without its key.

Olshan told the court she had also received messages from friends who said Baker had been trying to sell the items.

Baker’s former girlfriend, Chelsea Keefe, also took the stand. She testified that he had told her he took the items from the Olshan residence.

Keefe told the court that she went with Baker toWilkes-Barreto trade the stolen items for heroin.

Baker’s attorney, Patrick Daly, asked Keefe about her statements to police regarding the matter.

In her first statement to police, Keefe denied any knowledge of the theft but in a subsequent interview told police Baker had taken the television.

Baker is being held on $50,000 bail. A formal arraignment was scheduled for Dec. 20.
