Blue Ridge hires business director

The Blue Ridge School Board hired a district business manager Monday, May 5.

Brian Dolan, of Scranton, will take on the position beginning June 1 with a three-year contract ending June 30, 2018 at an annual salary of $76,500.
Dolan will also work in the district on five days in May, with dates to be set at the discretion of the Acting Superintendent Matthew Button. He will be paid a per diem rate.

After discussing available options over the past several months, the board gave its approval to a roof repair and warranty renewal proposal from Tremco at a cost of $328,809.

The board also set the collections dates for the 2015 real estate taxes. The discount period will be offered July 1 – Aug. 31; face period, Sept. 1 – Oct. 31; and penalty period, Nov. 1 – Dec. 31.

Installment payments for real estate tax bills were also approved.

Harold Empett was reappointed as Board Treasurer.

A $15,000 bond was approved for both the board treasurer and board secretary.

The Blue Ridge Summer Food Program through the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture was approved for this year.

The program provides free breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 and under on weekdays.

The 2015-16 school calendar has students returning to class from summer break on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Blue Ridge Medical Center was approved as the district medical director for the next school year.

Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams LLP were approved as the district solicitors for 2015-16.

Custodial and athletic supply bids were also approved.

RGM Hardwoods Inc., of Covington Twp., was approved to supply woodchips to the district at a cost of $40/ton, delivered.

A board workshop meeting is scheduled to be held Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria; a business meeting will be held on Monday, June 1, 7 p.m., also in the cafeteria.
