The Montrose Meteors Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Soccer Teams took on the Holy Cross Crusaders on September 22 and 23rd, respectively.
The Crusaders traveled to Montrose on Monday evening (Sept. 22) to face the Lady Meteors. These two teams have a fierce rivalry and for the fourth year in a row, the Lady Meteors came out on top. The game went back and forth for most of the first half, but Montrose kept possession of the ball for a majority of the 40 minutes. With only 3:19 to go, Krysten Morgan scored unassisted to give the Lady Meteors a 1-0 lead at half time.
Half way through the second half of the game, Montrose’s Hannah Dieck capitalized on a penalty and scored, unassisted, with a direct kick to increase the Lady Meteor’s lead to 2-0.

were desperate to score. At 75:37 of the 80 minute competition, Lexie Green passed the ball to Felicia Dzielak to give Holy Cross its first and only goal of the game and avoided a Montrose shutout. The game ended with a Montrose 2-1 victory over Holy Cross. Montrose increased their record to 3-0.
Anna Churco was in goal for Montrose and had three saves.

The Montrose Boys Soccer team traveled to Dickson City Tuesday, Sept. 23, to face the Crusaders on their home field. The Meteors earned the victory against a traditionally dominant foe.
Montrose dominated the game offensively from the beginning leaving goal keeper, Brendan Buck, without the need to make any saves for the entire first half of the game.
At 21:31, freshman, Tom Vaccaro put the first point on the board for Montrose.
The Crusaders answered at 11:42 when Nick Vinansky scored on a penalty kick to tie the game.
Montrose senior, Kyle Watkins, got the go-ahead goal with just 4:37 left in the half. Frustration of the Holy Cross players mounted and Matthew Nelson was given a yellow card for encroachment on a direct kick and removed from the game for the required five minutes. The score the half had the Meteors up by one, 2-1.
Holy Cross played an aggressive second half, taking some shots on goal.
But the aggression also cost them when Montrose sophomore Giovanni Amato was tripped in the goal box by a Holy Cross player. Amato was rewarded with a penalty kick and successfully scored at 30:29 to give the Meteors a 3-1 lead.
With 11 minutes left in the game, freshman, Zach Dieck finished off the Crusaders with a goal off an assist from Troy Ely to end the game with a 4-1 victory for the Meteors.
