Athletes shine at ESU invitational

Lackawanna Track Conference athletes put on a show at the eighth annual Red & Black Invitational at East Stroudsburg University last week.

Several performers took home first places at the event that featured 21 schools.

Montrose’s Allison Lewis won the 400 in 59.95. Elk Lake’s Taylor Watkins won the javelin with a toss of 122-3.

Montrose won the 1,600 relay.

Record efforts
Several school records tumbled last week.
At the Molly Dry invitational at Mansfield University, Watkins launched the javelin 133-0 to set a school record.

Postseason dates

The regular season has crossed the mid-way point and it is time to look ahead to the postseason.

On May 1, the 59th Jordan Relays will be held at Scranton Memorial Stadium and the Phil Tochelli Junior High Championship meet will be May 2.

The annual Robert Spagna Championships will be May 6, which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The District 2 Class AAA championships will be held Monday, May 12, and the District 2 Class AA championships are set for May 13 at Scranton Memorial Stadium.

The PIAA championships will be held May 23 and 24 at Shippensburg University.

Allison Lewis
Montrose
A senior, Lewis has once again had an outstanding season in the mid-distance races, especially the 400. She has the top time in the LTC Division IV at 1:01.74 and improved on that at the East Stroudsburg eighth annual Red and Black Invitational, posting a 59.95 clocking. She is also a member of one of the top 1,600 relay teams in the conference and District 2 Class AA.

Track notes
In Division IV, Kimberly Klim had three wins to lead Blue Ridge to a 122-26 win over Lackawanna Trail.
Lindsey Rupakus, Katherine Kempa and Laurren Whitney each had two wins for the Lady Raiders.
Sal Pelicci had the lone win for Susquehanna in the pole vault in a 131-9 loss to Carbondale in a Division III-IV crossover meet.
Brett Hepler had three wins for the Raiders in a 77-73 Blue Ridge loss to Lackwanna Trail.
