Susquehanna Community school board granted tenure to Karen Downton, elementary faculty, and Carly Batzel, high school science teacher, at its Sept. 18, meeting.

According to Superintendent Bronson Stone, Downton and Batzel are excellent teachers and have more experience than this action would indicate as both taught at other schools prior to coming to Susquehanna.

Stone also advised the board of several grants received by the district.

The grants will be used to purchase computers for use by high school students for their new math program; technology for Project Lead the Way; lights and microphones for the high school auditorium.

Stone, also spoke of the co-operation between the district and Lanesboro regarding security at the school campus.

The police officer has a great personality and has been an asset, Stone said.
