A raging fire gutted a generations-old farmhouse Sunday afternoon, leaving the Susquehanna County building uninhabitable.

Chief Pete Mecca of Hop Bottom Hose Company said no one was injured in the fire reported about 4 p.m. at 4483 Route 2002.

Chief Mecca said seven companies responded, arriving in 11 vehicles. The blaze was under control within half an hour.

Trudy Werner was the lone resident of the home.

Werner’s neighbor, Frank Finan, rushed to his neighbor’s aid when he heard her calling for help from his driveway.

“There’s nothing left but a part of the wall and the chimney,” Finan said.

Chief Mecca said the cause of the blaze is undetermined, but it is not believed to be suspicious.

“It was probably electrical,” Chief Mecca said.
