A pair of athletes from Elk Lake and a relay team from Montrose brought home medals from the PIAA Class AA State Track & Field Championships held last Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

Competing at the AA level, Luke Jones took fourth in the 3200 meters and Meagan Bush took sixth in the shot put to do likewise for the Warriors.

Montrose’s 4×400 relay team of Allison Lewis, Myra Lattimore, Madelyn Pasteka and Samantha Bennici also medaled, taking seventh place in the finals.

JONES
In the 3200 meters of boys’ AA competition, Elk Lake’s Luke Jones was able to stay with the leaders and earned a fourth place medal in a time of 9:21.85.

Although nine minutes off the winning pace of fellow District 2 athlete Rico Galassi of Holy Cross, Jones was thrilled with his time as

he finished his career with a school record time that obliterated his district time of 9:35.03.

“This is so cool,” Jones said. “To finish off my career with this medal is great. I broke our school record and I really wanted to do that. It’s bittersweet because I am done now.”

BUSH
In her first year at the state meet, Megan Bush finished her season by placing sixth in the Class AA shot put with a school record distance of 38 feet, 10 inches.

She won the Lackawanna Track Conference title, the District 2 AA championship and now was a winner of a state medal. California Area junior Kailyn Clancy won the shot put with a distance of 40-11.25.

“This was only my third year in track, so to have this kind of success is amazing,” Bush said. “I am just so happy that I can go out having broken the school record again.”

MONTROSE GIRLS
4X400 RELAY
The Montrose 4×400 relay team of Allison Lewis, Myra Lattimore, Madelyn Pasteka and Samantha Bennici qualified for the finals with a third place finish in the qualifying heats with a time of 4:07.18.

The team then finished seventh overall to medal with a time of 4:11.21. Swenson Arts and Technology took first at 3:58.38.

“We were so excited about making the final, because that was our goal coming here,” Lewis said. “We knew the weather wasn’t the best for running.

We didn’t care what our time was, we just wanted that medal.”

ELK LAKE
3200 RELAY

Elk Lake’s girls’ 3200 relay team of Kellie Grosvenor, Katie VanEtten, Kirsten Hollister and Elizabeth Trowbridge advanced past preliminaries to compete in the finals where the team finished 11th of 12 teams with a time of 10:01.92. Villa Maria Academy took first at 9:29.73.
In the preliminary heat on Friday, the team placed fifth in its heat with a time of 9:57.01.

KENZIE JONES
Elk Lake’s Kenzie Jones competed in the 3200 run, taking 15th overall out of 26 runners with a time of 11:45.38. Ad Gennocro of Saint Mary’s took first place with a time of 10:37.90.

LATTIMORE
Montrose’s Myra Lattimore competed in the 200 meters, qualifying for the semifinals with a 26.88 finish, good for 16th out of 25 competitors.
Her journey would end the following day in the semifinals, as she finished eighth in the second heat with a time of 26.97.

LEWIS
Montrose’s Allison Lewis competed in the 400 dash for her team, tying for 18th out of 27 in the prelims with a time of 1:01.61.

PASTEKA
Montrose’s Madelyn Pasteka competed in the high jump and tied for 10th place of 27 competitors with a height of 5-feet, 0-inches. Courtney King of Lakeview High School took first at 5-feet, 6-inches.

LAWSON
Montrose’s John Lawson competed in the javelin for the Meteors at took 13th place of 25 competitors with a throw of 160-feet, 8-inches. Top finisher was Matt Krezmer of Montoursville at 182-feet, 5-inches.

RUSSELL
Montrose’s Brandon Russell took 11th place of 22 competitors in the pole vault with a height of 12-feet, 6-inches. Top finisher was West Middlesex High School’s Luke Patten at 14-feet, 6-inches.

MONTROSE GIRLS
4X100 RELAY
The Montrose 4×100 relay team of Hanna Dieck, Myra Lattimore, Meghan Gilhool, Madelyn Pasteka was disqualified in the preliminaries and did not advance.
