BR board pres, vp retain posts

The Blue Ridge School Board kept its officers in place for the coming year, reappointing Laurie Brown-Bonner as president and Christina Cosmello as vice-president at the reorganization meeting held Monday, Dec. 3 prior to the regular board meeting.

The school board’s 2013 meeting schedule was also set.

In the regular business meeting, the board approved Jodi Hotaling and Cheri Tamburro as instructional substitutes.

A letter of intent to retire Dec. 21 from Linda Gunn, a personal care assistant, was accepted with regret.

A post-season payment of $337.50 to Cross Country coach Sam Folk was approved.

Discipline actions for four students were approved by the board.

The board also approved an uncompensated leave for High School/Middle School librarian Jennifer Yannone.

A sabbatical leave for Susan Cawley, guidance counselor, was approved.

The board approved a decrease in the number of Trehab’s “Too Good for Drugs” lessons presented to Kindergarten through 4th grade students.

In the past, Trehab provided five lessons in each grade level but will now at the school district’s request present four lessons.

A total of 28 “Too Good for Drugs” lessons will be taught to the k-4th graders at a cost of $25 per lesson, totaling $1,700 which will be billed to the district on a monthly basis.

A 30-day review of new board policy # 236 – Student Assistance Program – was approved.

An agreement with NHS of Northeastern PA was also approved. NHS will provide direct consultation, assessment and treatment services as set forth by the state and the Lackwanna-Susquehanna Counties Mental Health Office Students Assistance Program guidelines.

The district will donate $100 to New Milford Borough to help defray the cost of the baseball field scoreboard.

The board approved the transfer of the Pre-K busing cost of $91,601.96 from the contracted services account to a separate contracted services account.
