Former Olympian Curtis Stone and former Lackawanna Trail football standout Richard Jackson are among the Class of 2012 for induction into the Northeastern Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

This year’s ceremony is the 30th annual and will take place Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. at the University of Scranton’s DeNaples Center.

Stone, a standout runner at Brooklyn High School and Penn State University who represented the United States in three consecutive Summer Olympics – 1948 in London; 1952 in Helsinki, Finland; and 1956 in Melbourne, Australia. His best finish was a sixth place in the 5,000 meters in 1948.

Stone also won 13 AAU championships, including four straight titles in the 10,000 meters from 1951-54. At the 1951 Pan American Games, he won gold medals in the 10,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Former Trail running back Jackson played at King’s College (2001-04) and became the school’s career rushing leader with 5,365 yards. That total is also ninth in NCAA Division III history.
