Montrose boys’ varsity basketball coach Todd Smith was on the sideline for the final time in his career on Saturday during the Meteors’ 63-56 loss to Holy Cross at Lackawanna College.

After 23 years, he announced this would be his final season with the team, leaving the locker room in tears.

“I had a great time with these kids,” Smith said. “They are a great group of kids. It’s my time to go.

“I’m a Montrose fan, through and through, and I always will be. I’ll be here rooting for them, but it’s time for someone new.”
