Threat on cop lands man jail time

Albert Bishop

BY STACI WILSON

A man who threatened to kill the chief of the Susquehanna Depot Police Department earlier this month was sentenced Friday in Susquehanna County Court.

Albert Bishop Jr., 44, Susquehanna, pleaded guilty to one count of terroristic threats in connection with the Dec. 3 incident and was immediately sentenced to serve 11-1/2 to 23-1/2 months in prison.

Bishop had been arrested for disorderly conduct and public drunkeness.

But when taken to the police station, District Attorney Jason Legg told the court, Bishop spit in the face of Chief Robert Sweet and told the officer he would kill him when he saw him on the street.

Public Defender Linda LaBarbera told the court that Bishop had voluntarily enrolled in drug and alcohol counseling at the county jail where he has been held since his arrest.

She also said Bishop had apologized to Chief Sweet and expressed remorse for his behavior.
