Man admits knife attack on family pet

BY STACI WILSON

A Montrose man admitted to attacking a Labrador Retireiver with a knife in August causing 12 wounds to the animal which required over 140 stitches to close.

Daniel Nash, 28, pleaded guilty Friday in Susquehanna County Court to one count of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor which carries up to a two-year prison sentence.

As part of a plea deal, Nash has also agreed to pay the cost of the dog’s medical expenses.

He also pleaded no contest to one count of simple assault, which carries a penalty of up to five years incarceration.

District Attorney Jason Legg told the court that the dog, “Jamison,” and a six-year-old boy were in the yard at the Rosenkrans residence when Nash arrived at the home.

Legg said Nash brought the knife with him that was used to slash and attack the family’s pet.

After the attack, the three-year-old dog received emergency surgery at the Montrose Veterinary Clinic before being released to recover at home.

Nash is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 19, 2012.
