EL, BR boys sweep at Montrose

Elk Lake’s boys and girls, Blue Ridge’s boys and Montrose’s girls swept a meet on Tuesday at Montrose against Scranton, West Scranton and Mid Valley.

In the boys’ race, Elk Lake’s Luke Jones took first place at18:35 to set a Montrose course record, while teammate Will Bennett took second overall.

Blue Ridge’s boys took three wins anchored by a third place overall finish from Jake Hinkley at 18:54, followed by a fifth place finish from TJ Loomis at 19:29, a sixth place from Mike Robbs at 19:31 and a seventh place from Chris Carlsen at 19:32.

Montrose’s top boys’ finisher was Don Lewis in 13th place at20:20.

In the girls’ race, Elk Lake’s Maria Trowbridge finished first overall to set a course record at21:20, while teammate Jenny VanEtten took second at21:52.

Following VanEtten was Kirsten Hollister in third at22:12and Lainey Bedell in fourth at22:48.

For Montrose, Samantha Bennici was the top finisher in fifth place at23:03, while Allison Lewis took ninth place at23:27.

Susquehanna, Mt. View meet

At Susquehanna on Tuesday, the boys’ team picked up three wins, while the Lady Sabers went 2-2 as a pair of school records were broken.

Saber Brandon Soden broke the school record at19:02, finishing second overall behind Honesdale’s Brooks Jensen at18:53.

Mountain View’s boys faced a pair of losses fromWestern Wayneand Honesdale as the team didn’t place a runner in the top 15.

On the girls’ side, Susquehanna’s Ivy Christensen also set a school record at22:38finishing in third place overall as Honesdale’s Summer Hill took first at20:43.

Mountain View’s Kelly Purdy took 12th overall as the Lady Eagles took a pair of losses from Honesdale andWestern Wayne.

ForestCity’s boys’ and girls’ teams were both swept at Susquehanna with losses toLakeland, Lackawanna Trail and Susquehanna.

In junior high girls’ action, Susquehanna’s Alyssa Sweeney took first place overall at 13:21 to lead the Lady Sabers to wins over Western Wayne (24-33), Forest City (15-50) and Carbondale (15-50).
