Cavalieri nets 50th career goal in win over Dunmore

While Dave Cavalieri’s six goals helped liftForestCityto a 9-1 win overDunmoreon Saturday, they also provided him with a milestone.

With his goal in the 75th minute to cap the scoring off an assist from Wayde Loomis, Cavalieri recorded the 50th goal of his high school career in the Lackawanna Soccer League DivisionIIIgame.

“I didn’t really expect to get it today, but once I started scoring, I was feeling it today,” Cavalieri said in a telephone interview. “Our passing was good today, and we finished. That helps. It was fun.”

The senior scored two first-half goals, one off an assist from fellow senior Brian Nebzydoski and another on a penalty kick.

He also assisted Jake Fedak’s goal in the sixth minute to putForestCityup, 2-0.

“It’s been just great having him around the last four years,”ForestCitycoach Sam Long said. “He’s been a real bonus for the team.”

Cavalieri continued to barrage the net in the second half, accounting for four of the Foresters’ five goals.

With just three games left onForestCity’s schedule, Long also said he hopes his players don’t let up on the gas.

“There are a lot of things we’ve been working on,” Long said. “Our defense has really stepped up this year.

“Logan Fitzsimmons, Dylan Walsh, Matt Nevins and Alex Kresock have all been working their tails off in the back. We let up just nine or 10 goals this year. That really helps.”
