Copies of the Susquehanna County Independent’s 200th anniversary edition are available at the Independent office, located at 180 Church St., Montrose.

This commemorative edition features articles, photographs of past publishers and editors, as well as news clippings from the past 200 years.

In addition to newspaper history, a special 200 Years Ago column was prepared by Betty Smith, of the Susquehanna County Historical Society. There are also articles and photographs from local historical societies active in the county.

Feature articles include a look at the early years and development of the Courthouse district in Montrose; Susquehanna Depot, electric companies, the LDS Restoration Site, Dennis Farm, Salt Springs Park, Martin’s Creek Viaduct and more from agencies, clubs and organizations.
