Montrose quarterback Cayden Myers completed one pass, but it was a big completion.

Trailing by six in the waning moments in the game, Myers hit Bryden Jerauld, who made a fingertip grab for a 54-yard touchdown with 1:16 left. Matt Saravitz followed with the extra point for the difference in the game, giving Montrose a thrilling 27-26 victory over Carbondale Area on Friday night.

“All I want to do is bring winning football back to Montrose,” an elated coach Lou Cella said. “These kids practice and play hard and they deserve to win. We take it one week at a time but this is a step in the right direction. I’m so proud of these kids and I’m glad to be a part of this win. This is huge. It’s been a long time since Montrose beat Carbondale.”

Montrose’s Derrick Nunez led the rushing attack with 195 yards and three touchdowns including a 69-yard score that tied the game at 20 in the fourth quarter.

Carbondale’s Jason Jablonowski gave Carbondale a short-lived lead when he returned a punt 53 yards to put the Chargers ahead 26-20 with 1:31 left in the game. He had 170 yards on 36 carries.
