At 6’1” tall, Brody Bushnell’s height gives him a jumping and blocking advantage on the volleyball court.

Bushnell is the Independent’s Student Athlete of the Week.

The Elk Lake senior has been playing volleyball for the past four years. He was influenced by his brother to give the game a try.

“I started playing because my brother played and I thought it looked like a fun sport,” Bushnell said. “I like how intense and fun of a sport it is even though it’s a non-contact sport.”

The Warriors have already improved on the previous season’s record. “Last year we didn’t have a very good season we had a record of 0-14, but this season started off good for us,” he said. “We won our first game, so I’d say we are off to a good start.”

In addition to volleyball, Bushnell is also in the Ski Club and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). He also advanced to States in the SkillsUSA Quizbowl, a contest that tests a team’s knowledge of general academics, professional development, and current events.

The auto enthusiast plans to use that interest in his career. He plans to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology to major in automotive sales and service management.

He is the son of Shawn and Tara Bushnell and lives in Dimock Township.
