Boys high school volleyball got its season underway Tuesday night. There are only eight teams that compete in District 2 and five of them are from Susquehanna County.

Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Forest City, Mountain View, and Susquehanna will all have teams competing for the district title.

The Blue Ridge Raiders are coached by Lori Zick, who led the girls’ team to a District 2 Class A title in the fall.

Returning starters are Kyle Rivenburgh, Kyle Bayle, and James Goff.

They will be joined on the court by Shawn Woodruff, Austin Darrow, Ty Herbert, Sarthak Patel, Dom Rogers, and Garrett Mansfield.

Coach Zick expects that the Raiders will improve on their 7-7 record and the team’s goal is to reach the playoffs.

The Raiders took on Mountain View at the home opener on Tuesday, March 24.

David Breese is a third year coach at Mountain View. Last season they had a winning 12-2 record with a roster that included two all-region players, they were the 4th seed in the playoffs and a 2nd place finish in the league.

This year with returning starters, Lucas LaRue and Bryan Owens, Coach Breese feels they “should be able to compete for a league title if we stay healthy.”

Other players for the Eagles are Dustin Denby, Keegan Mack, Joe Cerra, Emmet Jodon, and Trystan Philips. The goal for the Eagles is to win a district playoff game. The Eagles will head to Blue Ridge for their first match on Tuesday, March 24.

Elk Lake Boys’ Volleyball is being coached by Mary Berg, who has been coaching the Warriors for 10 years.

She is being assisted by second year coach, Jared Berg.

Returning starters for the Warriors are seniors, Brody Bushnell and Adam Curry.

Other players on the roster are Jonas Fuller, Kenny Brittingham, Logan Adams, Chris Cook, Logan Moon, Phillip Cuzzins, JJ Heft, and Jake Werle. Elk Lake took on Lackwanna Trail in Tuesday’s season opener.
