Marino, Major defeat challengers; Wolf elected

Incumbent Governor Tom Corbett carried the vote in Susquehanna County but his bid for a second term was thwarted by Democratic challenger Tom Wolf.

Corbett posted 7,790 votes to Wolf’s 4,283 in the county, but in the statewide race Wolf bested the incumbent by over 300,000 votes, garnering 54.8 percent of elector support.

In Susquehanna County, 49.57 percent of the eligible voters turned out to the polls in the Nov. 4 General Election. Of the eligible 25,313 voters, 12,295 cast ballots last Tuesday.

In the 10th District Congressional race, incumbent Republican Tom Marino won re-election to a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Marino carried 8,055 votes in Susquehanna County; while challengers Scott Brion, Democrat, and Nicholas Troiano, Independent, posted votes of 3,099 and 967, respectively.

In the 10th District, Marino garnered over 60 percent of the vote; Brion received nearly 25 percent; and Troiano carried nearly 13 percent.

Incumbent State Senator Lisa Baker, 20th District, was unopposed on the ballot. She received 6,253 votes in the 28 Susquehanna County municipalities in her district.

Rep. Tina Pickett, R-110th, was also unopposed. There are 10 municipalities in the 110th district that are located in the county. Pickett received 2,145 votes in the county.

Incumbent Rep. Sandra Major, R-111th, won her re-election bid, facing off against Democratic challenger John Heptig at the polls.

Major posted 7,458 votes in the 33 municipalities included in the 111th to Heptig’s 2,136 votes.
District-wide, Major garnered 75.71 percent of the vote to Heptig’s 24.29 percent.
