Police say alcohol played a role in the Tuesday, Nov. 4 crash that claimed the life of a Montrose man.
According to police, Albert Hewitt, 69, was unresponsive at the scene and was flown to Robert Packard Hospital, Sayre, where he succumbed to his injuries on the following day.
A preliminary investigation revealed Hewitt may have had a medical issue prior to the crash. It was later discovered that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Hewitt was traveling on the North Rd., Bridgewater Twp., and failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway at about 3:30 p.m. His vehicle struck a tree off the east side of the road, then rolled over onto its roof. Hewitt was extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel.
United Fire Company, Montrose, and Montrose Minute Men assisted at the scene.
Tpr. Gregory Yanochko investigated the crash.
