Turning lane signs to be added in Great Bend Twp.

BY STACI WILSON

Great Bend Township is looking for some better guidance for motorists at the junction of routes 11 and 171.

At the Tuesday, Sept. 2 meeting, township supervisors expressed concerns regarding the left-turn only lanes , and the positioning of the signage in place at the busy intersection.

PennDOT provided the township with its traffic plan for that area. The plan indicates four “turn only” signs that should be in place.

The sign, closest the Interstate 81 south exit ramp is difficult to see, according to the supervisors.
They agreed the sign should be turned so it would be visible to motorists coming off the highway.

“They’re too busy turning to see the sign,” Supervisor Brian O’Connor said.

The supervisors will assess where the signs need to be installed or moved in order to help motorists navigate the traffic lanes at the intersection.

The township awarded bids for heating oil, kerosene, diesel and winter blend to Mirabito – the only bidder.

Supervisor Sheila Guinan noted the guaranteed prices are lower than last year’s pricing for all of the fuels.

Lopke was awarded the bid to provide road materials to the township. Lopke was the only bidder.

The bid for salt was awarded to Cargill, which came in at just under $79 per ton.

The supervisors are still looking for someone to step up as the township’s emergency management coordinator.

Anyone interested in the position should contact the supervisors at 570-879-4259.
