Several township supervisor races are heating up in Susquehanna County while voters in two boroughs will be faced with largely blank ballots Nov. 5.

Choconut Twp. incumbent William Dovin, R, faces a challenge on the Democratic ticket from Wayne Gittoes.

Incumbent Republican Dimock Twp. supervisor Charles Baker’s seat is being challenged by Tom Charles, D.

Harford’s Supervisor Garry Foltz, D, is being taken on by GOP challenger Conrad Owens.

Richard Grausgruber, earned the Oakland Twp. Republican Primary nod to challenge incumbent Democratic supervisor Susan Rowe for her seat.

Two incumbent Springville Twp. supervisors – Duane Wood, D, and Charles Clark, R – are vying for the same six-year seat while no name appears on the ballot for a two-year term supervisor position.

In two boroughs, voters will be faced with empty ballots in council and mayoral races.

Four council seats of the seven are up for grabs in Hallstead Borough with no candidates seeking election on the ballot.

The former mayor of Hallstead, Willie Canfield did not seek re-election to the position and stepped down from the post earlier this year. No one has stepped forward to run for the position.

There are only three council seats in Friendsville – all up for election. The mayoral post is also open. No candidates ran in the primary to be listed on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The mayoral race in New Milford, however, is contested.

Former borough council member Scott Smith, D, is challenging Republican incumbent Joseph Taylor for the post.

David Schulte Jr. earned both the GOP and Democratic nod in the primary election for the Mountain View Region 1B, Clifford Twp., school director seat, currently held by Michael Barhite.

Barhite, an Independent, is looking to be re-elected to the position.
In county-wide races, incumbent Sheriff Lance Benedict and incumbent Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts Susan Eddleston are running unopposed.

Magisterial District Judge incumbent Suzanne Brainard is also running unopposed.

Brainard currently presides over the Clifford District Court which covers the boroughs of Forest City, Hop Bottom and Uniondale; and the townships of Brooklyn, Clifford, Gibson, Harford, Herrick, Lathrop and Lenox.

Hop Bottom voters will no longer vote at the Grace Lutheran Church and will instead cast their ballots at the borough building.

A temporary polling place change for Friendsville voters is expected to be approved by the election board this week.

The board is expected to approve the Friendsville polling place change for the Nov. 5 election only to the Newman Center, 26565 SR 267, Friendsville. The center is located in Choconut Twp.
