An over-flow crowd of 125 family and friends packed the Great Bend Senior Center on Sunday, July 27, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Alice Smith, a resident of Great Bend.

The mother of five children, Smith was pleased to have all of her children, a great number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous other family members join with her friends to enjoy the fellowship and good food that was in abundance.

A special guest was Goldie Small, a former resident of New Milford, who in 2008 celebrated her 100th birthday in the same place.

Smith’s only daughter Rowena acted as hostess, and younger family members helped serve the beautiful birthday cake that followed a buffet.

Smith’s pastor from the New Milford Baptist Church arrived to give the blessing and to wish her another 100 years of a happy and healthy life.
The birthday girl received citations from U.S. Rep. Tom Marino (presented by Donna Cosmello), State Sen. Lisa Baker, and Morgan Madden with citations from Sen. Gene Yaw and State Rep. Sandra Major. County Commissioner MaryAnn Warren did the honors for the county.

The theme for the day followed Smith’s pastor with, “best wishes for a happy life with her family” from both Senator Baker and Commissioner Warren and all those who could make their way to her table.
