On Thursday night at Scranton Memorial Stadium, Montrose Area defended its girls’ Class AA title at the Jordan Relays.
Winning three Class AA events and finishing second in two others, the Lady Meteors scored 52 points.
Lakeland and Holy Cross tied for second with 36 points each.
“This was our main goal,” Montrose’s Samantha Bennici said. “Of course there can be gold medals that come along with that, but we really wanted to win that team title.
“And there is so much pressure when you are trying to repeat.”
Montrose, like Lakeland, shot out quickly by winning the Distance Medley and went on to post wins in the Class AA 3,200 relay and the 1,600 relay.
Bennici was a member of all three winning teams for the Lady Meteors, running a solid anchor in the 1,600 leg of the Distance Medley.
“Everybody did everything they could to win and a lot more,” Bennici said.
Allison Lewis was a member of the Distance Medley and the 1,600 relay, Angela Russell was on the Distance Medley and the 3,200 relay, while Rebecca Timm, Emma Griffiths, Emma Washo, Meghan Gilhool and Myra Lattimore contributed to one relay win each.
“We all ran our best and it is exciting to say that we won Jordan Relays again,” Lewis said.
On the boys’ side, Blue Ridge placed seventh overall, Montrose took ninth and Susquehanna finished in 10th place.
