Montrose girls down Elk Lake, Mt. View

The Montrose Area girls’ basketball team took a 43-32 win over Mountain View at home on Thursday after it handed Elk Lake a 45-17 loss at home on Tuesday night.

Against Mountain View, the Meteors led Mountain View 12-11 after the first quarter and held on to a 24-22 lead by halftime.

In the second half, the Meteors came out to pace the Eagles 12-6 in the third and took the win after a 7-4 run in the fourth.

Morgan Groover scored 13 points to lead the Lady Meteors while Sam Dixon and Meghan Gilhool each added nine.

Mountain View was paced by Vic Sterling and Makenna Whitaker with 14 points each.

On Tuesday, the Lady Meteors took an early advantage, pacing the Warriors 11-3 in the first quarter, and went on to hold a 21-14 lead by halftime.

In the second half, the Warriors were held to no score in the third as Montrose put up 15 points. The Meteors then finished off the Warriors with a 9-3 fourth quarter.

Montrose was led by Morgan Groover’s 16 points while Meghan Gilhool dropped in 15 points and Fallon Gurn scored six.

Elk Lake was led by Meagan Bush’s seven points while Kelsey Mitchell and Taylor Watkins each chipped in four.

Elk Lake

The Elk Lake girls’ basketball team grabbed a 47-41 victory over Lackawanna Trail at home on Thursday night.

The Warriors fell behind early with Trail outscoring them 9-5 in the first quarter but used a big 19-9 second to hold a 24-18 lead by halftime.

In the second half, The Warriors outscored Trail 11-7 in the third, and held on despite a 16-12 fourth quarter for Trail.

Elk Lake was led by Meagan Bush who scored 18 points while Casey Tyler added 11 points and Kelsey Mitchell dropped in eight.

Forest City

The Forest City girls’ basketball team picked up a 49-22 win over Blue Ridge on the road on Thursday night.

In the first half, Forest City took a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, but used a big 28-5 second to lead 32-8 by halftime.

In the second half, Forest City outscored Blue Ridge 6-3 in the third and after each team scored 11 in the fourth, the Foresters took the win.

Forest City was led by Carly Erdmann’s 19 points while Cassandra Bendyk added 17.

Jenna Bennett led Blue Ridge with five points while K. Klim had four.

Mountain View

The Mountain View girls’ basketball team edged Susquehanna at home on Tuesday night.

Makenna Whitaker hit one of two from the free throw line with two seconds left to give the Eagles the win.

Caity Tague tied the score at 49 with a free throw and Susquehanna’s inbound pass went out of bounds with three seconds left.

Mountain View then inbounded the ball to Whitaker who was fouled while shooting.

The teams battled back and forth through the first half as Susquehanna outscored the Eagles 18-16 in the first and 10-6 in the second to hold a 28-24 lead at halftime.

However, in the second half, the Eagles paced the Sabers 13-10 in the third and 15-11 in the fourth to cap the win.

Mountain View was led by Whitaker’s 18 points while Vic Sterling chipped in 14.

Mikayla Hargett scored 14 for Susquehanna while Mashawna Hargett added 13 and Sara Serfilippi netted 10.

Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge’s girls’ basketball team faced a 42-22 loss from Lakeland at home on Tuesday night.

The Raiders fell behind 11-5 after the first quarter and never recovered as Lakeland went on to lead 24-9 by halftime.

The second half saw the Chiefs increase their lead with a 14-4 third quarter and despite a 9-4 run from the Raiders in the fourth Lakeland came away with the victory.

Blue Ridge was led by Jessica Jhyingoor’s 11 points while Dakota Radakovich and Jenna Bennett each scored four.

Susquehanna

The Susquehanna girls’ basketball team was handed a 65-24 loss from Old Forge on the road on Thursday night.

Susquehanna was put behind early as Old Forge outscored them 14-8 in the first, and went on to lead the Sabers 33-14 at halftime.

In the second half, Old Forge paced Susquehanna 19-2 in the third and after a 13-8 fourth quarter, sealed the win.

Susquehanna was led by Mashawna Hargett’s 12 points while Emily Carmody and Melissa Mroz each added four points.
