Meteors top Riverside

The Montrose Area boys’ basketball team picked up a 60-53 victory over Riverside at home on Friday night.

Montrose’s Cameron Dean led the way with a double-double including 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Montrose got out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, but Riverside came back to put the Meteors at a 25-23 deficit at halftime.

However, Montrose battled in the third, pacing Riverside 18-8 to regain the lead.

Meteor Erik Burgh added 16 points to help Montrose’s cause while Brenton Warner had seven and Joey Zuber scored six.

Elk Lake

The Elk Lake boys’ basketball team grabbed a 43-20 victory over Carbondale in the 35th annual Mike “Red” Wallace memorial scholarship game in Carbondale on Friday.

Robert Heft scored 13 points to lead the Warriors to the win and earn MVP honors for his team.

The Warriors got out to a 12-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they paced the Chargers 19-13 by halftime.

In the second half, the Warriors outscored Carbondale 9-7 in the third and 15-8 in the fourth.

Nick Dudock added nine points for the Warriors while Tanner Reyan scored eight and Matt Woolcock had five.

Susquehanna

The Susquehanna boys’ basketball team grabbed a commanding 74-36 victory over Northeast Bradford at home on Friday night.

Andrzej Tomczyk and Mark Zappe each scored 15 points to pace Susquehanna in the win.

The Sabers outpaced NE Bradford 23-4 in the first quarter and 13-8 in the second to hold a 36-12 lead at the half.

And after dominating the floor 20-12 in the third and 17-12 in the fourth, the Sabers took the win.

Cole Mallery chipped in 12 points while J. Wheeler put in 10 points and Brandon Soden scored eight.

Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge boys’ basketball team faced a 47-40 loss to Sayre on the road on Saturday in the team’s season opener.

The Raiders fell  behind 13-6 after the first quarter, but battled back to hold a 25-23 lead by halftime.

However, the third quarter saw Sayre pace the Raiders 13-11, and after Blue Ridge struggled in the fourth, being outscored 11-4, the team took the loss.

Sawyer Dearborn had 12 points to pace Blue Ridge while Chris Carlsen had eight points and eight rebounds. Mike Gathany and TJ Loomis each dropped in six.

Forest City

The Forest City boys’ basketball team was handed a 56-31 loss from Carbondale in the opener of the Jerry Finan Tournament on Sunday.

The Foresters fell behind 14-6 after the first quarter and were held to 15 points through the first half as the Chargers came out to a 34-15 advantage.

In the second half, Carbondale paced the Foresters 15-12 in the third and 7-4 in the fourth to take the win.

Forest City was paced by Matt Nevins with 13 points while Alex Kresok scored eight and Vince DeLucy had five points.
