Salaries set for positions on the 2013 ballot

BY STACI WILSON

The county commissioners held a special meeting Monday, Oct. 29, for the purpose of setting salaries for elected county positions that will appear on the 2013 ballot.

The sheriff and prothonotary/clerk of courts will see a two percent salary increase in each of the years 2014 and 2015; but will receive no increase in 2016 and 2017.

The salaries in 2013 for both the sheriff and prothonotary are about $49,817.

The prothonotary also receives an additional salary for the position of clerk of courts. In 2013, the pay for the clerk of courts position will be about $5,316.

In addition to setting the salaries, the commissioners also voted to require the sheriff and the prothonotary/clerk of courts to pay 15 percent of their health insurance premium in 2014; with that percentage upping to 25 percent beginning in 2015 through the remainder of the term ending in 2017.

The pay for tax collectors in 2014-17 will remain unchanged from its current rate at $4 per bill, collected or uncollected.
