National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Montrose

Trehab is joining the Susquehanna County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement entities to celebrate the 29th annual “National Night Out.” This community – wide event is designed to:

•Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

•Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;

•Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and

•Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states,U.S.territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2011.

In order to celebrate National Night Out, an Ice Cream Social has been planned for Tuesday, August 7 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM on the Green in Montrose. Local agencies, businesses and civic groups will be hosting games and learning activities. Participants will have the opportunity to meet McGruff, the Crime Dog. Residents of all ages throughout Susquehanna County are cordially invited.

“This is a great opportunity for our communities to come together and take a strong stance against crime, violence and drug and alcohol issues in our area. We are hoping this event will not only raise awareness of issues, but also provideSusquehannaCountyresidents of all ages with the skills and resources to empower them. Prevention works.” says Andrew Granick, Trehab Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist.

Along with community events such as the Ice Cream Social, a traditional part of National Night Out involves community residents turning on their outside lights and sitting on their porches to strengthen the anti-crime message.
