The owners of one of the homes burglarized by Treavor Murdter took the opportunity at his sentencing hearing to tell him how his crime affected her family.

Murdter, 36, of Factoryville, broke into Donald and Kathleen Bennett’s home, May 3, 2010, stealing jewelry and cutting telephone wires to theSusquehannaCountydeputy sheriff’s house.

On the stand Thursday, Kathleen Bennett said, “Finally I get to put a face on the person who destroyed my life.”

She spoke of coming home that day to find her bedroom destroyed, drawers ransacked and family jewelry gone. Some of the jewelry taken had been handed down to Bennett from her mother.

“That was the last piece I had of my mother who has passed away,” Bennett said.

She told the court she now walks into her home wondering if someone else is going to be in there.

Deputy Sheriff Bennett also took the stand. He said, “You don’t know what it’s like to go home and see your house in that condition; to see your family and your wife so afraid. You hurt our family. For what? So you can profit? My family was traumatically hurt by your actions.”

District Attorney Jason Legg said, “We do so many of these cases of people who have broken into others’ homes, we lose sight of just how much that loss of security means to you.”

Before delivering the sentence, President Judge Kenneth Seamans said, “A tremendous amount of psychological damage is done when your premises have been burglarized. It’s not just a property loss. People should be secure in their own homes.”

In addition to the Bennett home, Murdter was also sentenced in two other cases on Thursday.

He was sentenced to serve 21 months to 7 years for Receiving Stolen Property in Harford Twp. on April 28, 2010; 21 months to 10 years for the burglary of the Bennett residence; and 21 months to 10 years for a May 3, 2010 burglary in Jackson Twp. He will also serve five years on probation after his release.

TheSusquehannaCountysentences were set to run consecutive to a 10-48 month sentence Murdter is currently serving inLackawannaCounty.

Kelly Jean Clark, 42, of Great Bend, to five days to six months for Driving Under the Influence in Susquehanna Borough on Nov. 15, 2011.

Joel Thompson, 29, of New Milford, to 90 days to 18 months for Driving Under the Influence in Bridgewater Twp. on Aug.17, 2011.

Michael Decker, 24, of Montrose, to 11-1/2 to 23 months followed by 5 years probation, for Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver in Montrose on Feb. 28.

Edmund George Carroll, 30, of Montrose,  to 18 to 36 months followed by three years consecutive probation for Robbery in Susquehanna on Feb. 21.

Wayne C Greene, 49, of Montrose, to nine to 23 months for Theft by Deception in Montrose on Aug. 24, 2011.

Robert Francis Sipel, 42, of Wilkes-Barre, to four years probation, supervision may be transferred to Luzerne County for Theft by Unlawful Taking in New Milford Twp. on Aug. 22, 2011.

Rosemary Griffis, 45, of Nicholson,  to four years probation for Theft by Unlawful Taking in Lenox Twp. on Dec. 10, 2010.

Robert L Smith, 26, of Montrose, to11-1/2to 23 months for Robbery in Lenox Twp. on November 7, 2011.

Daniel Eric Bentz, 31, of Montrose, to six to 24 months for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in Great Bend Borough on August 27, 2011.  Mr. Bentz also received two to 10 years in a state correctional facility to run concurrent with the above sentence and consecutive toLackawannaCountysentences for Robbery in Susquehanna Borough on Oct. 13, 2011.

Chris Ann Shuster, 40, of New Milford, to 12 months probation for Selling or Furnishing Alcohol to Minors in Harford Twp. on Feb. 12, 2011.

James Robert Shuster, 49, of New Milford, to 12 months probation, for Selling or Furnishing Alcohol to Minors in Harford Twp. on February 12, 2011.
