Montrose Legion splits with Hawley

The Montrose Senior American Legion baseball team grabbed a 3-2 victory and a faced a 6-0 loss at home against Hawley on Saturday after the team took a 4-2 loss to Hawley on the road on Thursday evening.

On Saturday, the first game of the doubleheader saw Anthony Bartok drive home the game-winner on a bunt down the first-base line to lift Post 154.

Mike Rapisardi drew a lead-off walk in the seventh, Nick Myers singled and Justin Hartman doubled to score Rapisardi. Meyers scored on an error to tie the game before Bartok plated the gam-winner.

Bartok was also the winning pitcher giving up no hits and no runs while walking one and striking out one over one-and-two-thirds.

In the nightcap, Hawley shut the Montrose team out with a 6-0 victory as Post 154 had just three hits. Korey Stimmel had a double while Dale Harder and Bartok each singled.

Rapisardi took the pitching loss, giving up four hits, no runs and two walks while striking out three in four innings.

On Thursday, Montrose was put behind 3-0 as Hawley brought home three runners in the third.

Hawley then tacked on a fourth run in the fourth inning, and despite a pair of runs from Montrose in the fifth, Hawley grabbed the victory.

Stimmel and Bartok each doubled for Montrose while Dale Harder, Mike Hackett, Rapisardi and Justin Hartman all singled.

Meyer was the losing pitcher for Montrose giving up five hits, three earned runs and a walk while striking out one in six innings.
