Police seize $15k heroin from Oakland couple

An Oakland Borough couple faces drug trafficking charges after state probation and parole officers discovered a large amount of heroin stashed in a box at theirState St.residence on May 31.

Drug charges were lodged against Steven Whritenour, 31, and Shawna Whritenour, 29, in New Milford District Court on Monday.

The box contained 13 bricks and four bundles of heroin.

District Attorney Jason Legg estimated the street value of the drugs to be about $15,000.

Parole officers stopped their search of the residence after they found the heroin and summoned the Oakland Police Dept.

According to the affidavit, police obtained a search warrant for the rest of the home and any vehicle owned by the Whritenours.

In addition to the drugs, the search turned up nine syringes found near the box containing the heroin; $767 of assorted cash denominations; and three cell phones containing text messages used to do drug buys.

A handful of packaging material used to wrap the heroin in was found in a locked Chevy Impala, according to the complaint.

The Writenours were taken into custody on a violation of their parole and probation.

Bail for both on the latest charges was set at $150,000 each.

Preliminary hearing are scheduled for June 11 in New Milford District Court.
