In less than five weeks Susquehanna Community school district students who have not received the state mandated immunization requirements will not be able to attend school.

As of Wednesday, March 21, there were 51 SCSD students whose parents have not made an effort to comply with the state requirement.

According to Superintendent Bronson Stone he has made every effort to work with the parents. Parents have been notified three different times. Stone offered to set up a clinic at the school but only three families were interested and he has made known the vaccine will be paid for if there is a financial concern.
At the beginning of the 2011-12 school year the state requirements changed with schools and parents having an eight-month window from the first day of school to comply. All children will be required to have a second dose of the chickenpox vaccine; tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis and meningococcal conjugate.

The board accepted David Lee’s intent to retire at the end of the present school year. Lee has been a member of the faculty for 34 years, teaching Social Studies and holding various coaching positions.

The NEIU #19 budget of $939,646.00 with a district contribution of $11,106.86, no increase for the district, was approved. Stone said this is a valuable tool for the district. Another valuable tool for the district approved was NEIU #19 video streaming service. The district board also approved a letter of agreement with WVIA for video streaming for the upcoming school year. This was called an additional library.
Early College Program for Young Scholars withLuzerneCountyCollege met with board approval.

The school calendar for the 2012-13 was approved with Stone assuring everyone this is not in conflict with the Harford Fair.

Business Manager Gary Kiernan was authorized to seek quotes for carpet for five classrooms; three elementary and two in high school. Yearbook publication agreement with Jostens was approved.

The board accepted Sabrina Graves resignation from the high school cafeteria, effective March 18 and hired Michele Lovenduski for a food service position.

A consultant contract with Kathryn Matis for 100 days at $125/day for the 2012-13 school year was approved.

Ann Marie Leber was added to substitute list. Raymond Testa,  Robert Goodrich, Kristi Rossi and Richard Emmons were hired as track helpers; Willim Szlil hired for a position with the Junior High boys basketball.
