The Montrose Area boys’ tennis team took a 3-2 victory over Valley View at home on Monday evening in the first round of District II Class AA playoff action.
It was the Meteors’ second victory over Valley View in less than a week as Montrose took a 3-2 win over the Cougars last Thursday on the road.
Monday evening’s match saw Zach Warriner defeat Ian Betti, 6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4; Michael Roman defeat Jordan Furdock, 6-3, 6-3; and Valley View’s Travis Troiani top Ryan Ochse, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
In doubles, Isaac Mitchell and Chris Jordan defeated Valley View’s John
Harrison and Tony Jadus, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-5; and Valley View’s Nicky Chesko and Dave Lesnefsky downed Sean Regan and Bryan Shultz, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
On Thursday, Mitchell and Jordan clinched the match for Montrose with a victory at number one doubles.
In singles, Warriner defeated VV’s Ian Betti, 6-2, 6-2; Roman topped Cougar Jordan Furdock, 6-0, 6-3; and Valley View’s Troiani defeated Ochse 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, Mitchell and Jordan bounced Harrison and Jadus, 6-3, 6-4; and Valley View’s Chesko and Lesnefsky downed Regan and Shultz, 6-2, 6-3.
The Meteors advanced to play either Scranton Prep or Wyoming Seminary at Kirby Park on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
