Warriors top Lions on track

The Elk Lake boys’ and girls’ track and field teams took a pair of victories over Lackawanna Trail at Tunnel Hill on Wednesday afternoon in the season opener.

Elk Lake’s boys’ team took a 117-32 victory over the Lions, while the Warrior girls took an 83-56 win over Lackawanna Trail.

On the boys’ side, the Warriors were led by Brad Moore who won three individual events as well as was a part of the winning 1600 meter relay team.

In addition, Joe Woolcock, Jason Vermeulen, Mark Bush and Mike Bedell won two individual events each, and Bedell was also part of two winning relay teams.

For the girls, Maria Trowbridge posted wins in the 1600 and 3200, and Cindy Good took the 110 hurdles and high jump, while Carolyn Teetsel won the shotput and discus to lead the Warriors.

First place finishes for Elk Lake on the boys’ side came from Trevor Gowin in the 100 hurdles at 18.47, the 3200 relay team of Will Bennett, Bryan Grosvenor, Luke Jones and Mike Bedell at 9:05, Brad Moore in the 100 at 11.8, 200 at 24.21 and 400 at 54.4, Bedell in the 800 at 2:01 and 1600 at 4:29,  the 400 relay team of Dylan Simmons, Aaron Stang, Than Thanormthin and Joey Woolcock at 50.3, Ben Stang in the 300 hurdles at 46.6, Jones in the 3200 at 10:44.9, the 1600 relay team of Bedell, Grosvenor, Moore and Bennett at 3:44, Mark Bush in the shot put at 45-9.5 and discus at 123-2, Joe Woolcock in the javelin at 151-6 and triple jump at 35-9.5 and Jason Vermeulen in the long jump at 17-0 and high jump at 5-6.

Thirds were recorded by Thanormthin (400), Bobby Benscoter (shot put and discus), Isaiah Ofalt (long jump and triple jump), Swartzstrauber (high jump) and Stang (pole vault).

For the Lion boys, firsts came from Aaron Barbolish in the pole vault with a throw of 11-0.

Seconds were recorded by Anthony Urban (400), Barbolish (3200), Barber (discus), Matt Goodrich (javelin) and Dylan Harris (high jump).

Thirds came from Harris (100 hurdles), Urban (100), Justin Clarke (1600), Jamie Reese (300 hurdles), Zack Wetzel (800), Brown (200) and Barbolish (3200 and javelin).

On the girls’ side, Elk Lake had first place finishes from Cindy Good in the 100 hurdles at 18.25 and high jump at 4-2, the 3200 relay team of Abby Zdancewicz, Emily Williams, Elizabeth Trowbridge and Lainey Bedell in 11:10, Maria Trowbridge in the 1600 at 5:40 and 3200 and 13:01, Elizabeth Trowbridge in the 800 at 2:34, the 1600 relay team of Good, Kelsery Hermick, Kirsten Hollister and Venny VanEtten in 4:35, Carolyn Teetsel in the shot put at 30-10.25 and discus at 76-6 and Samantha Milnes in the long jump at 12-1.

Seconds were recorded by Hollister (100 and 200), Hermick (400), Good (300 hurdles), Zdancewicz (3200), Megan Bush (discus), Chelsea Karabin (javelin) and Milnes (high jump).

Thirds came from Carly Bennett (100 and 300 hurdles), Zdancewicz (1600), VanEtten (400), Williams (800), Bush (shot put), Rachel Manzek (javelin), Hunter Cole (long jump) and Milnes triple jump).

For the Lion girls, first place finishes came from Lauren Ellsworth in the 100 at 12.81, 200 at 26.5 and 400 at 1:01.4, the 400 relay team of Aliza Furneaux, McWhorter, Molly Siegle and Ellsworth at 58.4, Furneaux in the 300 hurdles at 52.64 and triple jump at 28-7 and Alexa Rzucidlo in the javelin at 96-3.

Seconds were recorded by Furneaux (100 hurdles), Kiernan Dougherty (800 and 1600), Rachel Smarkusky (shot put), Bellanco (long jump and triple jump).

Thirds came from Siegle (100 and 200) and Smarkusky (discus).
