Although the number of wrestling coach positions was reduced for the upcoming year, Blue Ridge will still have a team.<\/font><\/p>\n

That news from board president Alan Hall came as a welcome relief to some parents who attended the Monday night board meeting because of rumors circulating that the program would be cut.<\/font><\/div>\n
Hall said, “The program is not in jeopardy as of yet.” But he said, in light of dwindling numbers, the wrestling program may not be safe forever.<\/font><\/div>\n
“We need parents and kids to get involved,” said Hall. “That’s what’s going to save the program.<\/font><\/div>\n
Hall said the junior high team only has six participants in the program.<\/font><\/div>\n
The board also voted not to fill department head and several other coaching and club adviser slots for the upcoming school year. <\/font><\/div>\n
However, the board did add an athletic director as an adviser position. <\/font><\/div>\n
The new director, Jill Hoffman, will be paid $7,000 for the year and will be under the direct supervision of high school principal R. Scott Jeffery.<\/font><\/div>\n
The board hired Judith McKee, of Montrose, as the school nurse beginning with the 2010-11 school year.<\/font><\/div>\n
The board also accepted intent to retire notification from Sharon Warren, effective Aug. 31.<\/font><\/div>\n
The superintendent position was not filled at the July 19 meeting.<\/font><\/div>\n
Blue Ridge’s former superintendent Chris Dyer retired on July 1.<\/font><\/div>\n
