On Saturday afternoon, area race fans will be merely a short drive away from action at the Kiwanis Wyoming County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

That’s because the ‘Hayfield 20’ race is making its second appearance at the fairgrounds, west of Meshoppen, to kick up some dust.<\/div>\n
Racing starts at 1 p.m., and for those interested in joining in on the race, it is open to anyone with a four or six cylinder car (no all-wheel drive). Registration starts at 11 a.m. with a mandatory driver’s meeting taking place at 12:30 p.m.<\/div>\n
There will be two types of racing going on, both oval track racing and back by popular demand is figure-eight track racing.<\/div>\n
“The figure-eight track is an interesting race,” Kiwanian George Yuhas said. “A lot of people have been asking for its return.”<\/div>\n
Four and six cylinder cars will be broken up into separate classes based on the size of engine, and there will be a 20-lap feature for each class.<\/div>\n
“It’s hometown fun,” Yuhas said. “And a great opportunity for any racing enthusiast to give racing a shot.”<\/div>\n
Yuhas said that the ‘Hayfield 20’ is a great chance for people in the area to get to watch a different kind of racing in the area.<\/div>\n
“At the fairgrounds people traditionally think of demolition derby and tough trucks,” Yuhas said. “But this racing is all on the ground, and it’s very competitive.”<\/div>\n
He said race coordinators enjoy bringing in new opportunities for local enthusiasts.<\/div>\n
And he noted that with the population beginning to grow in the area because of the gas industry, Yuhas believes that a greater demand for ticketed events will come into play.<\/div>\n
“There was a study done of the county that said there is a big demand for ticketed events,” Yuhas said. “And we’re looking to bring in some of those opportunities.”<\/div>\n
The racing done at the fairgrounds’ motorsports arena is being kept at four and six cylinder racing because that way it stays affordable for locals to come race.<\/div>\n
Yuhas said that people coming to the race can easily expect 20 to 25 racers, as that has been the average recently.<\/div>\n
And attendance at motorsports events at the fairgrounds has ranged between 300 and 750 people. Admission price is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Kids under 5 are free.<\/div>\n
A vendor will be on hand with food and drinks for those in attendance.<\/div>\n
