Skateboarders will no longer be able to ride their boards on the sidewalks of the Montrose business district.<\/p>\n
Borough council adopted the ordinance at its Sept. 13 meeting. The ordinance takes effect immediately.<\/p>\n
First offense results in confiscation of the board for 30 days; second offense results in a $50 fine.<\/p>\n
Along with skateboards, the ordinance also bans bicycles from riding on the sidewalks.<\/p>\n
The business district includes Public Ave., and sections of Church, South Main, Chestnut, Spruce, Chenango, Beech, Strawberry Lane and Maple streets as well as part of Grow Ave.<\/p>\n
Portions of Memorial Park are also off-limits to the boarders, including the pavilion\/play area, access ramp and walking track.<\/p>\n
But Council is still working on developing a skateboard park at the town park in the area used in the winter time for ice skating. But the skateboard park won\u2019t be opened until next spring.<\/p>\n
Council also enacted a \u201cjake brake\u201d ordinance banning trucks from using brake retarders on Grow Ave., Church St., South Main and the north bound lane of Cherry St.<\/p>\n
The Department of Transportation provided the borough with the routes and directions the ordinance would apply to.<\/p>\n
