{"id":234,"date":"2010-09-08T17:20:13","date_gmt":"2010-09-08T17:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/independentweekender.com\/?p=234"},"modified":"2010-09-15T14:49:59","modified_gmt":"2010-09-15T14:49:59","slug":"firefighting-arsonist-pleads-guilty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/2010\/09\/08\/firefighting-arsonist-pleads-guilty\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighting arsonist pleads guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_237\" style=\"width: 192px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/independentweekender.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Dan-Parsons1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-237\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-237\" title=\"Dan Parsons\" src=\"http:\/\/independentweekender.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Dan-Parsons1-182x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Dan-Parsons1-182x300.jpg 182w, https:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Dan-Parsons1.jpg 204w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 182px) 100vw, 182px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dan Parsons Jr.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The New Milford firefighter accused of torching the landmark Susquehanna County eatery that employed him pleaded guilty to a felony arson charge on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Parsons Jr., 19, admitted to setting the April 11 fire that destroyed Bingham\u2019s Restaurant in Lenox.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being employed at Bingham\u2019s as a dishwasher, Parsons was a rookie, volunteer firefighter with the New Milford Fire Company \u2013 one of the 12 departments who were on the scene the night of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Although also charged with lesser arson offenses, Parsons pleaded guilty in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas to the highest count lodged against him, a first degree felony.<\/p>\n<p>He faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced by President Judge Kenneth Seamans on Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>District Attorney Jason Legg said that jail time could not make up for the devastation the fire caused for the businesses involved, employees and loyal customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty unfortunate situation,\u201d said Legg. \u201cI hope he gets an appropriate punishment for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Bingham\u2019s, two other businesses were also destroyed in the blaze &#8211; Country Landmarks Real Estate and The Outdoorsman, a sporting goods store.<\/p>\n<p>Legg said, \u201cArsons really affect people in bad, bad ways. In this case, it touches countless families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire community lost something that was an icon in a lot of ways,\u201d said Legg. \u201cI hope they\u2019re able to recover and come back stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New Milford firefighter accused of torching the landmark Susquehanna County eatery that employed him pleaded guilty to a felony arson charge on Thursday.
