{"id":186,"date":"2010-08-04T17:46:49","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T17:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"1.922127"},"modified":"2010-09-02T17:53:32","modified_gmt":"2010-09-02T17:53:32","slug":"1-million-bail-set-for-nye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/2010\/08\/04\/1-million-bail-set-for-nye\/","title":{"rendered":"$1 Million bail set for Nye"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Bail was set at $1 million for a Susquehanna  County man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and who eluded police capture for over four months.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Bryan Lewis Nye, 38, Montrose, faces felony sex charges including two counts of rape by forcible compulsion, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Nye was arraigned on the counts before District Judge Jeffrey Hollister in Montrose, Wednesday, where the $1 million bail, or 10 percent cash equivalent, was set. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 9.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">According to the police affidavit, Nye allegedly assaulted the teen on multiple occasions and in various locations from Jan. 2009 through Feb. 2010. Details of the assaults by the victim were detailed by police in the affidavit.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">The Susquehanna County Independent does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Nye turned himself into authorities on July 19. He has been held in the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility on a bench warrant for a probation violation since that date.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Two women police identify as Nye&#8217;s girlfriends had also been charged in connection to the case.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Carrie Lee Blanton, 37, Montrose, was charged earlier this month with intimidation of witnesses or victims and hindering prosecution &#8211; both are felony counts &#8211; and a misdemeanor corruption of minors charge.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Blanton waived her July 19 preliminary hearing in front of Hollister. Charges have been bound over to the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas. Blanton is free on bail.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Charges lodged against Nye&#8217;s other girlfriend, Stacy Lee Edwards, 32, Nicholson, were withdrawn last week by Susquehanna County District Attorney Jason Legg.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Edwards had been charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Legg sent a letter to Montrose District Magistrate Jeffrey Hollister dated July 27 requesting the criminal complaint filed April 13 against Edwards be withdrawn.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">According to the request filed by Legg in District Court, Edwards&#8217; attorney, John J. Brier, told Legg that Nye would surrender if the charges against Edwards were withdrawn.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Nye&#8217;s attorney, Mark Powell, confirmed to Legg that the fugitive was willing to turn himself in provided the condition was met.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">The district attorney discussed Nye&#8217;s offer with State Trooper Greg Deck, who had filed the charges against Edwards.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">According to Legg, the apprehension of Nye exceeded other considerations, including the prosecuting of Edwards for her alleged part in aiding a fugitive.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: 0in;\">Legg said Nye made no request to have charges against Blanton withdrawn prior to turning himself in on July 19.<\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bail was set at $1 million for a Susquehanna County man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and who eluded police capture for over&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-186","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.2 -
