Law enforcement officials have uncovered what they believe is a vehicle theft ring that involves items taken in Pennsylvania and which were subsequently sold or exchanged in New York for drugs.<\/font><\/p>\n

Dustin G. Harvey, 24, of South Montrose and formerly of Tunkhannock, was arraigned last Tuesday night (Aug. 3) on charges by Pennsylvania State Police of burglary, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking in Dimock Township.<\/font><\/div>\n
He is in the Susquehanna County jail on $250,000 bail.<\/font><\/div>\n
David E. Goodbred, 22, of Bristol, faces four counts of receiving stolen property and an additional one a week later of hindering apprehension and prosecution. <\/font><\/div>\n
On July 26, according to a criminal complaint, State Police Tpr. John Oliver was doing a routine check of an ATV driven by a 15-year-old who said he was test driving it because he was considering purchasing it.<\/font><\/div>\n
A check of the ATV’s vehicle identification number by Oliver revealed that the vehicle had been stolen out of Tunkhannock.<\/font><\/div>\n
Further investigation led Oliver to Goodbred’s home on Bare Valley Road in Dimock Township where Oliver observed multiple ATVs and other vehicles.<\/font><\/div>\n
VIN checks revealed two stolen ATVs, a stolen Saturn and a stolen Honda motorcycle.<\/font><\/div>\n
According to the complaint, Goodbred said about the vehicles, “that he did not even know they were on his property.”<\/font><\/div>\n
He said the ATVs had been purchased a few years earlier and he did not know they were stolen.<\/font><\/div>\n
A third person, Daryl I. Cook, 26, of Montrose, is charged with receiving stolen property in both Bridgewater and Dimock Townships.<\/font><\/div>\n
He was arraigned on July 26. With bail set at $50,000 he also had been committed to the Susquehanna County jail.<\/font><\/div>\n
According to one of the criminal complaints, Cook acknowledged his role in an incident of property taken from a residence along Meshoppen Creek Road, and he said that it had been driven by another individual identified as Harvey up Rt. 29 and into New York Cook and traded for a “Bundle” of heroin and some cocaine.<\/font><\/div>\n
Cook said he and Harvey had a serious drug issue.<\/font><\/div>\n
In another incident, Goodbred and Cook have also been charged by Montrose police officer Andrew Genneken with taking money along with a case of beer from a Montrose man.<\/font><\/div>\n
On July 23, according to a complaint, one of the men got in front of the alleged victim and another behind and told the man “to give up his money or get an ass kickin.”<\/font><\/div>\n
The pair allegedly grabbed a case of Yuengling black beer from the man and reached in his pocket and took $200-$300.<\/font><\/div>\n
The complaints for Cook and Goodbred claim that Harvey was driving the vehicle in which they were leaving the scene.<\/font><\/div>\n
A number of charges are still pending, and all three men have preliminary hearings on some of the known ones on August 16 before Magistrate District Judge Jeffrey Hollister.<\/font><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
