The Prom may be the most festive day of the year for high school students, and Friday\u2019s Life Skills Prom did not disappoint.<\/p>\n

About 100 Life Skills students from five area school districts attended the prom hosted this year by Blue Ridge. In addition to the hosting school, Montrose Area, Elk Lake, Mountain View and Mid Valley attended.<\/p>\n

Adele Bennett, Blue Ridge Middle School \u2013 High School Life Skills teacher said her students chose this year\u2019s theme and helped to both make and decorate for the day. Bright, neon color tablecloths with candy centerpieces, balloons and parasols hung from the ceiling completed the party atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Bennett said preparing for the event was both exciting and nerve-racking.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to do a great job for the students. You don\u2019t want to let them down, so it\u2019s a lot of stress and hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that hard work paid off, as attendees lined up for the taco bar buffet and enjoyed ice cream for dessert served up by the Susquehanna County Dairy Promotions court, and then headed out to the dance floor and to the photo booth.<\/p>\n

Blue Ridge\u2019s Jesika Shoemaker was crowned Queen; and Gregory Kerner of Montrose Area was crowned King.<\/p>\n

Mountain View teacher Molly Verbitsky said the students were very excited to be attending. She said the teachers along with volunteers helped out in the morning with makeup and hair. She said parents were invited to the school before the departure for pictures.<\/p>\n

Verbitsky said the big thing about the Life Skills Prom is the socialization with other students.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great experience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
