The number of subdivision plans submitted to the Susquehanna County planning office has been dropping off in recent years, despite a coincidental boom of natural gas leasing activity, county planner Bob Templeton said.<\/font><\/p>\n

With the reduced workload in the office, the county opted to scale back its workforce by one and eliminated the department’s clerk\/typist position.<\/font><\/div>\n
Following an executive session of the salary board on Wednesday, Aug. 11, the board voted to eliminate the position effective Aug. 27.<\/font><\/div>\n
The salary board is comprised of the three county commissioners and county treasurer.<\/font><\/div>\n
According to Templeton, in 2009 102 subdivision plans were submitted to the planning commission. That’s about one-third less than the average number of plans submitted in each of the past four years.<\/font><\/div>\n
So far this year, the county planning commission has approved 50 subdivision applications and Templeton is not sure if the county will reach the 100 mark by the year’s end.<\/font><\/div>\n
Prior to eliminating one clerk position, the salary board created a part-time clerk position in the Register and Recorder’s office.<\/font><\/div>\n
A deputy in the Register and Recorder’s office intends to retire, effective Sept. 15.<\/font><\/div>\n
The letter of intent to retire from Betty J. Phillips was accepted by Evans, with regret. The commissioners acknowledged the acceptance of intent letter at the meeting. <\/font><\/div>\n
The commissioners then acknowledged the hiring of a replacement for Phillips.<\/font><\/div>\n
Phyllis Sheldon, of New Milford, was hired as the Third Deputy in the Register and Recorder’s office, effective Aug. 16.<\/font><\/div>\n
As of Monday, Robert Fearnley moved from his position as Program Specialist with the Conservation Department to work as Water Resource Coordinator.<\/font><\/div>\n
The commissioners approved Fearnley for the position, per the recommendation of the County Conservation District’s Board of Directors.<\/font><\/div>\n
A member representing Susquehanna County resigned from the Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau committee.<\/font><\/div>\n
The commissioners accepted the verbal resignation of Gretchen Backer from the committee given to EMVB’s Jean Gasper, effective immediately.<\/font><\/div>\n
Dennis Maloney, owner of Maloney’s Irish Sports Pub and Family Restaurant in Hallstead, was appointed to an unexpired term on the EMVB committee, effective immediately.<\/font><\/div>\n
A lease for Children and Youth office space in the Shops Plaza, Susquehanna, was renewed for a one-year period which began on June 1. The space is leased at $700 per month.<\/font><\/div>\n
A trailer in Union Dale was removed from the Tax Claim Bureau’s Repository list per the recommendation of Catherine Benedict, Tax Claim Director.<\/font><\/div>\n
