Mountain View clinched a share of the Lackawanna League Division III girls soccer title with a 2-1 win over Montrose on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Brianna Spence scored for Montrose, giving the Meteors the early 1-0 lead; but the Eagles answered back with Same Jones scoring off an assist by Karlee Weida.<\/p>\n

Weida then scored with an assist by Hannah Richner to put the Lady Eagles up 2-1.<\/p>\n

Mountain View goalie Hannah Phillips had 11 saves; Montrose goalie Katie Puterbaugh had 6.<\/p>\n

Montrose is now 6-1 on the season; while Mountain View is 7-1. The Eagles only loss came from Lakeland; while the Meteors beat the Chiefs when the teams met just two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Montrose is still in the hunt for a share of the Division title and face Carbondale on Tuesday, Oct. 20.<\/p>\n

At Elk Lake, the Lady Warriors fell to Dunmore, 9-2, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Shelby Valvano and Amanda Mowry scored for Elk Lake.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Lakeland defeated Mountain View, 1-0. Goalkeeper Hannah Phillips had 10 saves.<\/p>\n

The Lady Eagles, who outscored their first six opponents, 41-1, got a good chance in the 57th minute.
\nRichner lined a direct kick to Ali Showalter but it went long and out of play.<\/p>\n

Eleven minutes later, Sam Jones made a run in the box, made a move on her defender and got control of the ball but her shot was deflected to the right of the post to set up a corner kick but they were unable to convert.<\/p>\n

Mountain View\u2019s last opportunity came with 1:20 to go when Lakeland was whistled for a foul. Lucy Adams lined a direct kick from 35 yards out into the box and Showalter made a run for it but couldn\u2019t get there in time.<\/p>\n

Despite the loss, a win in Thursday\u2019s regular-season finale against Montrose would give the Lady Eagles at least a share of the regular-season division title.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just weren\u2019t winning those 50-50 balls that we should have been,\u201d Mountain View coach Erika Gething said. \u201cWe put it in a lot of effort but we just couldn\u2019t convert it to a goal. It\u2019s just motivation to work harder and sometimes you need that. The girls have done a great job this season and sometimes you just need something to keep you going and to keep working hard for the rest of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

At Forest City on Tuesday, Amanda Mowry and Lydia Hunsinger each scored two goals to lead Elk Lake, 6-0, over the Lady Foresters.<\/p>\n

Tiffany Toth made 12 saves to earn the shutout.<\/p>\n

At Montrose, Madison Gilhool had a hat trick to help the Lady Meteors move to a 6-0 record Tuesday with an 11-0 win over Mid Valley.<\/p>\n
