Jason Miller will join the county treasurer\u2019s office as a part-time deputy on Monday, Oct. 5.<\/p>\n

Miller is unopposed on the November ballot for the county treasurer\u2019s seat after getting the nod in the Republican May primary election. There were no Democratic candidates listed on the primary ballot, and Miller earned the nomination on that ticket as well.<\/p>\n

The temporary deputy position was created by the salary board and will continue through the end of the year, at a maximum of 29 hours per week, at $13 an hour.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Treasurer Cathy Benedict is retiring at the end of this term.<\/p>\n

The county commissioners also signed a five-year grant agreement between the Lackawanna\/Susquehanna Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs and the Dept. of Drug and Alcohol Programs.<\/p>\n

According to the agreement, DDAP is obligated to pay nearly $2 million to the Lackawanna-Susquehanna programs in the 2015-16 fiscal year; and about $1.65 million in the remaining fiscal grant years.<\/p>\n

The 2015-16 allocation includes the final year of special grant funding for underage drinking programs.<\/p>\n

DDAP determines the fund allocations to be used for treatment and prevention using a formula determined by the state.<\/p>\n

Commissioner MaryAnn Warren said the county match for drug and alcohol services is $13,000.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Alan Hall reported the recycling center had received new equipment and some needed building maintenance work has been done at the county recycling center.<\/p>\n

He also said that with the price of scrap down, the center is stockpiling the metal until the price goes back up.<\/p>\n

Member of a Lyme Disease support group that meets in South Montrose asked the commissioners how they could help with advancing the tick-borne disease task force established by the county.<\/p>\n

Hall said the task force would at first be comprised of a select few people, including medical personnel, with a commissioner leading the group.<\/p>\n

Hall also responded to a report that the county was using Act 13 funds to build an industrial park on the I-81 corridor. \u201cThere\u2019s no truth to that,\u201d Hall said.<\/p>\n

There is, he said, a study being done regarding the feasibility of the creation of an industrial park on the corridor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
