The Elk Lake and Montrose boys cross country teams improved to 5-0 this season with both collecting two wins in the second meet of the season at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, Sept. 15.<\/p>\n

Montrose\u2019s Owen Brewer set a course record for the second consecutive meet, this time finishing in 17:29.<\/p>\n

Zach Mead of Montrose was third and Brandon Curley was fourth.<\/p>\n

Cody Oswald paced Elk Lake with a second-place finish on the 3.1-mile course in 17:52, while Seth Owens finished seventh in 18:20.<\/p>\n

Hunter Bedell finished in ninth at 18:23 for the Warriors, who are off to a strong start to defending their District 2 Class A championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach (Will Squier) has done a good job going year-to-year,\u201d Bedell said. \u201cHe\u2019s focused on getting potential out of us year-in and year-out and not putting a lot of pressure on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bedell also participates in indoor track and field in the winter and competes in the outdoor track and field season in the spring.<\/p>\n

\u201cI prefer racing in track,\u201d Bedell said. \u201cBut I do enjoy both track and cross country. I enjoy the team we have this year. It\u2019s a good group.<\/p>\n

Justine Johns led the Lady Warriors with a fourth place finish in 20:15 and was immediately followed by teammates Katie Bennett (20:20) and Keri Jones (20:36).<\/p>\n

Also for Elk Lake, Shyanne Bennett also finished in the top 20 in 16th at 22:49.<\/p>\n

Scranton Prep\u2019s Erin Feeney won the race and set a new course record with a time of 18:36.<\/p>\n

At Honesdale, Forest City\u2019s Jennifer Korty finished first on the 3.1-mile course with a time of 21:03.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
