A week ago, Lackawanna League golf coaches could have employed a line from Captain Renault in the movie classic \u201cCasablanca.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRound up the usual suspects.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Friday\u2019s Jackman Memorial Tournament, that might not be sufficient.<\/p>\n

Forest City had a nice campaign a year ago, finishing third with an 11-3-1 mark, but expectations have been raised as the Foresters are now the pick to unseat the two-time champion Crusaders, the coaches\u2019 consensus validated by posting the best score (320) of any of the small schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe definitely have to be focused,\u201d senior Adam Kowalewski said. \u201cBeing the favorite, we don\u2019t want to be too overconfident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senior Dylan O\u2019Dell shot a 3-over 75 at the Jackman, but the Foresters got big efforts from freshmen Chris Bebla and Collin Ennis.<\/p>\n

Holy Cross returns individual state qualifier Tom Dzwonczyk along with Angelo Mancinelli, and the addition of Tressler gives the Crusaders three solid players, which can be enough to win five points in the league format of six individual and three better-ball matches.<\/p>\n

Riverside lost a key component with the transfer of a student to Wyoming Seminary, but Matt Torrisi was unbeaten in league play last year and joins Aaron Oustrich, Justin Copp and Tyler Gaidula as returning starters.<\/p>\n

Dunmore has five starters back, led by senior Joe Weber, as both the Bucks and Riverside figure to have a say in the division race. So might Old Forge, which returns three starters.<\/p>\n

And no one should count out Montrose, which always seems to find a way to win and is led by Austin Smith, a state qualifier and All-Region player a year ago.<\/p>\n

At the Jackman Tournament, Montrose\u2019s Smith (75) eagled the par-5 first hole to win a sudden-death playoff with North Pocono\u2019s Bowen and Forest City\u2019s Dylan O\u2019Dell to claim the low senior scoring award.<\/p>\n
