This week was a busy week for the local high school baseball teams. Most were still trying to make up games that were postponed during the first two weeks of the season. With only one more week in the regular season, the teams have to get the games in before playoffs begin.<\/p>\n

Friday, April 24, was a big day for the Elk Lake Warriors who took on the Mt. View Eagles in a close game. The Warriors defeated the Eagles, 16-13, to claim their second victory of the season.<\/p>\n

Zach Groover, Caleb Ely, and Blake Chew all pitched for Elk Lake. Groover pitched 3-1\/3 innings, had four strike outs, three walks, allowed six hits and seven runs; three earned.<\/p>\n

Ely, a freshman, pitched one inning, had two strike outs, three walks, allowed one hit and five runs; three earned.<\/p>\n

Chew pitched 2-2\/3 innings, had two strike outs, four walks, allowed no hits, and one unearned run.<\/p>\n

Scoring for Elk Lake: Ely, Brandon Traver (2), Ben Townsend, Holden Cole, Groover (2), Jack Waldenberger, Chew (2), Griffin Arnold (2), Evan DeBonis (2), and Jason Vasquez (2).<\/p>\n

Waldenberger had four RBI\u2019s, Ely had three, Chew and DeBonis had two, and Traver, Cole, Arnold, and Vasquez each had one.<\/p>\n

\"Mountain<\/a>

Ewan Sands and Sam Flannery pitched for Mt. View. Sands pitched 3-1\/3 innings, had two strike outs, four walks, allowed four hits and 15 runs; six earned.<\/p>\n

Flannery pitched 2 2\/3 innings had three strike outs, one walk, allowed three hits and one earned run.<\/p>\n

Matt Lavin and and Deon Faramelli each scored three runs, had one hit, and two RBI\u2019s for the Eagles. Zeb Feduchak had two hits, one run and two RBI\u2019s. Anthony Neri and Justin Dougherty each had one run, one hit, and one RBI. Flannery and Alex Showalter each scored two runs.<\/p>\n

On Monday, April 27, the Susquehanna Sabers faced off against Lackawanna Trail. The Sabers lost a close game, 3-2. Austin Felter pitched the entire game for the Susquehanna.<\/p>\n

He had four strike outs, three walks, allowed four hits and three runs; two earned.<\/p>\n

Felter and Evan Haley scored runs for the Sabers in the bottom of the seventh inning and Christian Miller earned the RBI. Eric Lee, Felter, Haley, and Miller each had hits for Susquehanna.<\/p>\n

The Foresters had a shut out, 8-0, win over the Warriors on April 27.<\/p>\n

Kyle Shema pitched all seven innings for Forest City. He had nine strike outs, one walk, allowed two hits, and no runs. John DeEsch and Dakota Knehr-Cook each had two hits, two runs and one RBI for the Foresters.<\/p>\n

Their teammates, Shema, Mitchell Blake, Adam Kowalewski, and Hunter Wallis each scored a run. Dylan O\u2019Dell and R.J. Krutus earned two RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Blake Chew, Ty Moon, and Curtis Spila all pitched for the Warriors. Chew pitched two innings, had one strike out, one walk, allowed four hits, and three earned runs. Moon pitched two innings, had one strike out, two walks, allowed five hits, and two earned runs. Spila pitched one inning, had no strike outs, two walks, allowed three hits and three earned runs.<\/p>\n

Ben Townsend and Moon got the only hits for Elk Lake, but were unable to score.<\/p>\n

The Montrose Meteors played their first Div. III-IV crossover game on Monday, falling to Dunmore, 4-1.<\/p>\n

Chris Lee pitched 5 innings for Montrose; he had nine strike outs, no walks, allowed six hits and four runs; one earned. Freshman Bryden Jerauld made his varsity pitching debut. He pitched two innings, had one strike out, one walk, allowed one hit, and no runs.<\/p>\n

Lee scored the only run for the Meteors with Michael Vanness earning the RBI.<\/p>\n

Mountain View traveled to Blue Ridge on Tuesday (April 28) for the first of two games in two days. They split the wins with Blue Ridge winning 9-0 on Tuesday and Mt. View winning 7-6 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Jake Decker pitched 6-1\/3 innings for the Blue Ridge Raiders. He had 11 strike outs, one walk, allowed three hits and no runs.<\/p>\n

Derek Stento closed the game had no strike outs, no walks, allowed one hit and no runs.<\/p>\n

In the 6th inning, Decker had help from his infield to get a three-pitch inning when Mt. View\u2019s Flannery hit a pop up to first base, Ed Bognatz hit a line drive to the short stop, and for the third out Chris White hit a line drive to second base, all on the first pitch.<\/p>\n

Kalieb Scheideler had two hits and three runs for Blue Ridge. Decker had two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Tre Hillard had two hits, one run, and two RBI\u2019s. Evan Aldrich had two hits, one run, and one RBI. Stento had one hit, one run, and one RBI and Nick Folk had one hit and one run.<\/p>\n

White, Sands, and Bognatz shared the pitching duties for Mt. View. They each pitched two innings. White had three strike outs, one walk, allowed three hits and two runs; one earned. Sands had one strike out, one walk, allowed four hits and two earned runs. Bognatz had one strike out, three walks, allowed four hits and five earned runs.<\/p>\n

The next day Mt. View claimed the victory at home.<\/p>\n

Sands pitched six innings, had two strike outs, four walks, allowed six hits and six runs; four earned. White pitched one innings, had one strike out, no walks, and allowed one hit and no runs.<\/p>\n

Players scoring for the Eagles: Bognatz, Feduchak, Neri, Faramelli, Dougherty, Flannery and Perry.
\nFaramelli had three hits; Flannery and Perry each had two RBIs; and Ryan Lavin had one.<\/p>\n

Stento pitched 5-2\/3 innings, had three strike outs, two walks, allowed five hits and four earned runs. Hillard pitched one inning with no strike outs, one walk, allowed four hits and three earned runs.<\/p>\n

Montrose had their rematch with Dunmore on Wednesday, this time taking a 4-1 victory.<\/p>\n

Kyle Watkins pitched the entire game for the Meteors with nine strike outs, two walks, allowed two hits and one earned run.<\/p>\n

Nick Henry had three hits, two runs, and one RBI to lead the Meteors. Vanness had two hits and one run, R.J. Arnold had one hit and one run. Ethan Stankiewicz and Watkins each had two hits.<\/p>\n

Susquehanna facing Trail for the second time in three days on Wednesday. The Lions defeated the Sabers and had a huge seven run inning in the bottom of the 6th.<\/p>\n

Miller, Kasey Burdick, and Brady Towner each pitched for the Sabers. Miller pitched three innings, had no strike outs, one walk, allowed eight hits and six runs; four earned. Burdick pitched two innings, had no strike outs, two walks, allowed one hit, and four runs; three earned. Towner pitched 1\/3 of an inning. He had no strike outs, no walks, allowed five hits and four earned runs.<\/p>\n

Brad Sherman, Burdick, Williard Cobb, and John Ball scored the four runs for Susquehanna. Eric Lee had two RBI\u2019s, Burdick and Towner each had one.<\/p>\n

Forest City traveled to Elk Lake to take on the Warriors for the second time on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Warriors put up a good fight on their home field, but it wasn\u2019t enough to beat the Foresters who took the 5-3 victory.<\/p>\n

R. J. Kuruts pitched 4-1\/3 innings for Forest City. He had six strike outs, three walks, allowed two hits and three runs; two earned. He was followed by John DeEsch who pitched 2\/3 of an inning and had one strike out. Mitchell Blake closed for the Foresters with the last two innings. He had five strike outs, no walks, and allowed one hit.<\/p>\n

Runs were scored by Knehr-Cook, Shema, Blake (2), and Kuruts. Kuruts also had three hits and three RBI\u2019s. Shema and Cody Barrese each had an RBI.<\/p>\n

Groover pitched six innings for Elk Lake. He had six strike outs, three walks, allowed five hits three earned runs. Chew faced two batters and had one walk and allowed one hit and two earned runs. Moon finished the game for the Warriors. He had one strike out.<\/p>\n

Ely scored two runs and Townsend scored one for the Warriors. RBI\u2019s were earned by Townsend and Chew.<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s rains canceled some games but didn\u2019t stop Elk Lake and Mountain View from playing.<\/p>\n

The Warriors traveled to take on Mt. View and the Eagles wanted revenge from their previous loss to Elk Lake, which they got by defeating the Warriors, 7-0.<\/p>\n

White pitched the entire game for Mt. View and had nine strike outs, four walks, allowed three hits and no runs. He also had two hits and two runs for his team.<\/p>\n

Bognatz, Faramelli, Flannery, Perry and Ryan Lavin scored the other five runs. Faramelli and Lavin each earned two RBI\u2019s and Feduchak earned one.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake had four pitchers throughout the game; Moon, Chew, Ely, and Spila. Moon pitched one inning, had one strike out, four walks, allowed one hit and one earned run. Chew pitched 3-1\/3 innings, had one strike out, three walks, allowed four hits and four earned runs. Ely pitched 1\/3 of an inning had one walk, allowed one hit and two runs; one earned. Spila pitched 1 1\/3 innings had one strike out, one walk and allowed one hit. Moon had two hits and Townsend had one hit for Elk Lake.<\/p>\n

Blue Ridge and Susquehanna both played Div. II-IV crossover games on Saturday. Blue Ridge was defeated by Mid Valley, 12-0; and Susquehanna collected a win from Carbondale, 7-3.<\/p>\n

Felter, Zach Collins, and Miller pitched for the Sabers. Felter pitched two innings, had two strike outs, one walk, allowed two hits and one earned run. Collins pitched three innings, had two strike outs, no walks, allowed three hits, and two earned runs. Miller pitched two innings, had one strike out, one walk, and not hits or runs.<\/p>\n

Lee and Felter each scored two runs and Haley, Luke Brinton, and Collins each score one. Haley, Felter, and Ball earned two RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The weather forced an unusual Sunday game where Forest City took a 5-4 win from Trail.<\/p>\n

Shema pitched four innings for the Foresters, had five strike outs, two walks, allowed two hits and two earned runs. DeEsch pitched 2 2\/3 innings, had two strike outs, one walk, allowed three hits and two runs; one earned. Blake pitched the final 1\/3 innings and allowed one hit.<\/p>\n

Krutus had three hits, one run, and one RBI. Knehr-Cook had one hit and one run. O\u2019Dell, Kowalewski, and Mc Givern each scored runs. Blake had two RBI\u2019s and Barrese earned one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
