The Elk Lake School Board accepted a bid Wednesday for a partial re-roofing of the elementary school, after deciding to re-advertise last month due to an error in the bid specifications.<\/p>\n

The board approved awarding the contract to TRS Roofing Inc., with a base bid of $306,900. Other related bids were also approved for materials, as well as $1,100 to replace a skylight if it is determined to need to be replaced.<\/p>\n

The board also gave permission to advertise to purchase a used 4-wheel drive Chevrolet pickup with an eight foot box and plain cab. Superintendent Ken Cuomo said that this is at least the fourth attempt to purchase a pickup for the school. Private owners are eligible to offer such a pickup for sale, as well as dealerships, Cuomo said, in response to a question by board member Chuck Place.<\/p>\n

A contract was approved for the Rediker Student Information Software for $6,580 for a 16-month contract. Another $1,200 was approved for training purposes, and the total cost for software for the entire school district was approximately $9,000.<\/p>\n

The Elk Lake school had contracted with the Rediker company two years ago, and Cuomo said that the staff \u201cmuch prefers going back to Rediker.\u201d In the interim, the district has been using the CSIU system.<\/p>\n

The board also granted permission to advertise for bids for the resurfacing of part of the secondary school parking lot. Cuomo said that the area in front of the high school building\u2019s porch is \u201cspidering and beginning to come up.\u201d<\/p>\n

School board member Charles Place asked, \u201cIs Leatherstocking obliged to come back and do repaving in the areas it had to tear up for the gas lines?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo responded in the affirmative, noting they would be coming back to mill up those areas and fill them in with asphalt. The project should be completed by Aug. 15.<\/p>\n

A list of newly hired substitute teachers was approved.<\/p>\n

The 2009-10 school year audit had one finding that needed to be addressed. There was an under-reporting of the number of students who were placed in private homes, which had already been corrected. The corrected audit can now be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
