Campaigns for the May primary kicked into high gear Saturday as county Democrats and Republicans held their annual Lincoln Day events. Prospective candidates circulated petitions seeking the signatures needed to earn a place on the May 19 primary ballots.<\/p>\n

At the Democratic breakfast, three people announced their plan to run in the county commissioner race. Incumbent MaryAnn Warren, of New Milford Borough, is seeking her fourth term as a commissioner.<\/p>\n

Former Susquehanna County jury commissioner Charles Bullock and Montrose Borough Councilwoman Julanne Skinner also announced their plans to run for commissioner.<\/p>\n

At the Republican event, five contenders stepped forward in the race for commissioner. Incumbent Alan Hall of Hallstead is seeking his second term; Elizabeth Arnold, Frank Pinkowski, Edna Paskoff and Michael Redding also<\/p>\n

announced their candidacy, introducing themselves to the GOP voters.<\/p>\n

With the impending retirement of Mary Evans, Register of Wills, Recorder of Deeds and Clerk of Orphans Court, several are looking to fill the open seat. Tom Charles announced his intent to run on the Democratic ticket. Michelle Estabrook, Teri Gulick, Brian O\u2019Conner and Wendy Zapolski sought support of fellow Republicans.<\/p>\n

While no Democrat looked to gain the County Treasurer seat, two Republicans are looking to take the position. Jason Miller of Harford and Bob DeLuca, also of Harford, have announced plans to run for the office. Miller attended the Saturday\u2019s GOP function. DeLuca was unable to attend due to work obligations.<\/p>\n

District Attorney Jason Legg is seeking election as judge in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas on both the democratic and republican tickets.<\/p>\n

Legg\u2019s move to run for the judicial seat has prompted three to seek the Republican voters nod in the primary in the District Attorney\u2019s race.<\/p>\n

Patrick Daly, Robert Klein and Marion O\u2019Malley are looking to take the office.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Coroner Anthony Conarton is seeking re-election on the Republican ticket.<\/p>\n

County auditors Susan Jennings and George Starzec are both seeking re-election. Jennings will run on the Democratic ticket; and Starzec is a Republican.<\/p>\n

In remarks made at the two political events, both Jennings and Starzec paid tribute to their colleague, Holly Bialy, who lost her battle with cancer last year.<\/p>\n

The municipal primary will take place on Tuesday, May 19.<\/p>\n

Prospective candidates for office have until March 10 to circulate and file their nomination petitions.<\/p>\n
